Roy Wrench was born in Bristol in 1917, and, as a boy, he studied at Cotham Secondary School. He later established himself as a self-employed exhibition and interior designer, starting his own company that flourished under his guidance as Chairman and Managing Director. His father was an excellent charcoal artist, (although Roy claims to be self taught). He specialised in marine subjects especially around the coastal waters of Plymouth, where he has a boat moored. He is a very competent sailor and since the death of his first wife sails single-handed most of the time. This experience has helped him immensely in the portrayal of his marine subjects. Of the Arts he once said If the content is well structured, I like all music, virtually all art, but mainly modern literatureā. He was President in 1992. Shortly afterwards he remarried and moved to Plymouth. Unfortunately we only rarely see him in the Studio, sketching, but he continues to submit work to the Annual Exhibition. We have only 2 of his Evening Sketches. (R. S. B)
