Ron Ranson was born in Chesterfield in 1925 and lives in the Wye Valley at St. Briavels. He began his career as a technical illustrator with Rolls Royce, illustrating cars and aero engines. He then spent many years as a designer with London Advertising Agencies, and for 12 years he was Publicity and Public Relations Officer with a major company before taking up painting as a career. He is self taught and concentrates on watercolours. He has developed a loose impressionist style which has much of the simplicity of oriental painting. During the last few years his work has been shown almost world-wide. He has had one-man exhibitions in England, Australia and Luxembourg and his work is shown regularly at the Royal Institute of Watercolour painters and other important London exhibitions. Throughout the year he runs a residential watercolour school at his home in the Wye Valley with students coming from as far afield as Australia, USA, South Africa and Oman. During the summer he leads parties of painters to the Greek Island of Paxos and to Provence in the South of France. He also travels all over Britain giving talks and demonstrations to Art Societies.
