ROBINSON, Arnold W., RWA.* PDF Print E-mail
He was an authority and a first class artist in stained glass work and had his studio above his firm`s address in Park St. He became a well known figure around Clifton with his haversack strapped to his back, walking from his home in Stoke Hill to his studiTo. He was elected an artist member in 1921 and was active in the studio up to 1924 and became President in 1944. He worked mostly in water colour and crayon, usually in dark colours. He contributed occasionally to `Grouse`. Examples of his skill are to be seen in the Berkeley Chapel of Bristol Cathedral and at St Edyth`s Church, Sea Mills. He was also responsible for the restoration of the windows of Bristol Cathedral, badly damaged by enemy action and also for reinstating valuable glass removed for safety at the outbreak of hostilities. Never of robust health, in 1944 he no longer felt able to attend the Wigwam and after a long illness he died in 1954. We possess over 20 of his evening sketches and a caricature of him in the Wigwam.
