Maurice Codnor was born in September 1888, a portrait painter in oils and watercolour, father of John Whitlock Codnor. He exhibited at the RA, RP, ROI, RI, NEAC and the Paris Salon where he had an honourable mention in 1938. He has works in permanent collections at the Imperial War Museum, the Stock Exchange and the Baltic Exchange. His list of official commissions include a portrait of King George VI as Captain-General of the Honourable Artillery Company at Armoury House, and a portrait of Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother. He joined the Bristol Savages as an Artist Member, and died in 1958. (R.S.B)
