Martin Fisher served as a submarine commander in the Second World War. On his return he attended the RWA School of Architecture under the Principal B/S Gordon Hake. A fellow student at the time, B/S Eric Franklin and later Honorary Secretary, said of him “He was a very good artist and a splendid architect with a highly developed sense of humour”. After qualifying he became an architect with the Bath Corporation, and worked with Sir Hugh Casson, consultant architect to the city on new proposals for Bath. He left the corporation to set up his own architectural practice in Bath. An excellent draughtsman, in 1969 he produced a folio of prints of his pen and ink drawings of Bath, which had a forward written by Sir Hugh Casson. He became an Artist Member in 1965 and President in 1969. He exhibited a varied range of subjects at the annual exhibitions from 1965 until 1974 and in the following year he resigned. (R. S. B.)
