Born 1920 in North Shields, Northumberland, He was usually known as Bill. Educated at Drayton Manor County School, West London and Trinity College of Music (London University). Occupations Draughtsman, Ministry of Works. Teacher of Music, Hertfordshire and Bristol. Music Programmes Producer, BBC Bristol. Wartime Service Royal Engineers, subsequently member of RE Band. Self-taught painter, watercolour and pastel mainly. Member of Savages since 1960, first as Blue Feather, pianist and member of Savages` Quartet. In 1970 became a Red Feather. President of Savages 1975 and 1978. Retired to Throwleigh on Dartmoor in 1978. Has exhibited regularly in Okehampton and Chagford (Devon) Galleries. Mainly paintings of Dartmoor and surrounding areas. Musical activities outside Savages, e.g., a concert in which he conducted his own composition Overture Hadrian`s Wall based on Northumbrian folk tunes, and played the solo piano part in Cesar Frank`s Symphonic Variations, by invitation with the Southmead Orchestral Society, (SOS).
