Born in Nantwich, one of the Roman salt towns of Cheshire. He was educated in Crewe and at 16 started on his art education at the Stoke on Trent College of Art. He then went on to the Manchester College of Art. He took a career change by joining the Cheshire Constabulary, eventually becoming a Police Artist. He even did 3 years in the theatre in the Manchester area and came to Bristol to complete his Art Education (B. A. Hons) ending up at the Royal College of Art (M. A.) He married Rachel in 1972 and then started an art teaching career here in Bristol. A highlight of this period was an exchange year with an Australian teacher, which meant that he and his family spent a year in Tasmania 1988. He also had a two year period as the Arts Support Teacher with the Avon Education Authority. His art teaching career finished in 1997 when he worked with fellow Savage Michael Long at the City of Bristol College. Since retirement he has been developing his own artwork, both as a painter and printmaker. He has his prints and paintings in many private collections in this country, New Zealand, Australia, USA, Norway and France. His hobbies include restoring vintage bicycles, motorcycling, singing in his church choir and all things that involve his family, especially travel. President of Bristol Savages 2005-6. Died 21 September 2006, 6 days before AGM.
