Born in Cotham, Bristol in 1908. Trained as an artist at the Municipal School of Art Queen`s Rd. under R.E. J. Bush, also an Artist member of the Savages. He then took employment as a commercial artist at Mardon Son and Hall where he worked until his retirement in 1973, rising to the position of Studio Manager. He became a member of the Bristol Savages in 1936 and was a regular exhibitor at the Annual Exhibition, showing 79 works from 1938 to 1978. The subjects included caricatures of fellow members and some landscapes and street scenes. Harold was a great admirer of Charles Dickens; he was well read on the subject and produced many illustrations and caricature studies of the characters that appeared in his books. He was made a Life Member in 1979. The club still retain 30 of his figure studies and 20 examples of his evening sketches. (R.S.B.)
